Project Data:
Completion Date: 7/31/2021
Square Footage: 186000
Building Use: Office
Project Description:
Microsoft’s RTP Office Interiors was a multi-phased whole building renovation to accommodate a fast-growing team in the area. The office floors were designed utilizing corporate guidelines catered to local business, to create zoned, team-based office areas with social amenity spaces and robust working labs that support a wide range of work styles, tasks, and functions all in a flexible work environment. Each floor brings in local flair with maps and custom graphics tied to localities in the Triangle.
Team rooms were designed to anticipate the different ways teams need to work together while providing the agility and flexibility required. They promote operating as “One Microsoft” team by enhancing collaboration and increasing productivity amongst teams, both 1-on-1 and 1-to-many, with open workspaces outfitted with mobile desks, a private phone room, a focus room for small groups, and a project room for larger groups. Open meeting spaces, large conference rooms, lounge hubs, and computer training rooms are also available for shared use located along active “boulevards” that connect the spaces.
The design is a cross-section of residential and hospitality, creating a workplace where employees feel just as comfortable as they would at home with homelike furnishings and state-of-the-art A/V equipment. Many informal work areas also offer modular furniture, such as tables that can be fit together into ad hoc groupings as needed. The project includes over 200 high-end, unique finishes including hand-crafted wood ceilings, subtle branding elements, custom environmental graphics, acoustical treatments, screening elements, felt walls, custom textile, 3-D art, and more.
To support employees’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, each floor includes a vibrant recreation area and a Hub lounge where employees can gather, play games like ping pong, shuffleboard, and Xbox, or grab food and a drink. These hubs are flooded with daylight and have long sightlines. There are also unique multipurpose collaboration spaces that support their social culture for jam sessions, crafting clubs, and board games. A new Wi-Fi enabled, outdoor courtyard patio is available for employees to enjoy fresh air and sunshine as they work, interact with others, or perhaps partake in a game of bocce ball. Technologies include secure access control, smart monitors, room reservation software, and a state-of-the-art frictionless market for employees to purchase fresh food and specialty drinks.
