Square Footage: 4400
Building Use: Single Family Residence
Location: Laguna Niguel, CA
Project Description:
Floating above the flat plane of its generous rectangular lot, the Monarch House takes advantage of the warm southern exposure and dramatic westerly views of the hillside and ocean. This compact and efficiently planned home enjoys a variety of outdoor spaces including a protected courtyard, an ocean facing terrace, and private bedroom patios.
Revolving around a central courtyard the plan is organized horizontally and vertically into distinct public, living, and exterior spaces, each with a unique relationship to the site. Entry to the house is via a protected alcove found through a tree lined public garden formed by the garage and marble feature wall that defines the public and private sides of the central courtyard.
Framed views of the canyon give way to the ocean horizon beyond as the great room opens up to reveal the unique outdoor spaces that surround it. The marble feature wall of the entry serves as backdrop to a peaceful outdoor living room that hovers above the ground plane, affording views through the house to the ocean beyond. A glistening pool fills the ocean terrace with gentle sounds of water spilling along the pool's infinity edge. There's no better place to spend the afternoon.
