Project Description:
Opzoon - Tianjin R&D Campus Amenity Building
Opzoon Technology Co., Ltd. Is a global solutions provider for data center and cloud computing headquartered in Beijing, China. Founded in 2009 with worldwide subsidiaries in Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, Opzoon holds over 400 patents to support its proprietary software and hardware solutions. Fueling the company’s meteoric growth is an expansion of its core R&D operations through the construction of a new R&D Tech Campus / Data Center located on a 10.65-acre site in Tianjin.
The Campus Amenity Building will provide all three elements of Live / Work / Play for its executives, researchers and staff. The 75,000 gsf, 5-story building will house quick-service and sit-down dining facilities, fitness, recreation, large conferencing spaces, VIP lounges and executive residential units.
The amenity building has been situated to be a prominent focal point within a pedestrian-focused, centralized courtyard space that enhances connectivity to all campus functions. The design locates the most public spaces such as the Dining, Fitness, Recreation and Meeting spaces on the lower three floors for both ease of access and promotion of an active, social environment. Residential units are located on the top two floors to maximize privacy and provide enhanced views of the campus courtyard to the south and views of the new “Tianjin Goldin Finance 117” supertall tower to the north.
The building design employs a unique exterior sunshade along the south-facing courtyard elevation inspired by geometries found in the hardware that supports Opzoon’s systems. The exterior shading optimizes natural daylighting to program spaces while maintaining visual connectivity for users to the exterior courtyard and adjacent campus buildings. The geometries of this vertical sunshade transitions to become a horizontal trellis that dramatically cantilevers over the main VIP arrival and interior atrium at the east face of the project. The top of the building will support a planted roof that improves the building’s thermal performance while providing additional green amenity space to the campus.
The Campus Amenity Building strives to provide a balance of needed Live / Work / Play spaces to the R&D campus through an iconic structure that captures the expansive spirit of OPZOON.
