The first floor consists of: an entry foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, an office, powder, and a three-car garage. The second floor consists of three bedroom suites with large walk-in closets and individual full bathrooms, a terrace, and a laundry room. The basement is a car showroom for 10-12 cars with daylight, including a bar, car lift, turntable, storage area, a full bathroom and game area, including a pool table.
The site is fully developed with an infinity pool, waterfall, putting green, a series of terraces with natural stone retaining walls to accommodate an olive tree orchard, which the house is named after.
Design for Integration, Design for Well-being
DESIGN INTEGRATION:
The architectural design of olive hill house (due to its size and location) is aimed to be responsive to a complex client's program, site constraints and environmental conditions as well as the city of Newport Beach zoning ordinance.
The design of the house, as a Tuscany style of architecture, was resulted from an afternoon of site seeing and driving around the nearby recently developed residential areas of clients' interest. Accordingly, during this pleasant hands-on collaborative effort, the clients, while observing and discussing various styles of existing homes, pointed out to the architect as to their likes and don't likes. Subsequently the character and style of their future residence was formulated. Therefore, following clients' directives under the style of Tuscany, the design aimed to incorporate varying building massing, harmony, balance, and entry statement that are proportionate with the overall structure and its immediate surrounding.
Among the many unique challenges in designing the Olive Hill House was the owner's requirement for a 10-12 car garage in the lower level, despite a small street-frontage of the lot, which would only fit a 3-car garage. Per our initial extensive site analysis, we had to design one of the three car garage spaces to accommodate a car lift, and also added a turntable in the lower level to maximize and facilitate the cars parking process.
The Olive Hill House (due to its size and location on steep sloped site) is designed as a three-story building (with living areas on the first & second levels, and a basement with daylight of 3,500 sq. ft. that consist of a state of the art car show room including a game area. The backyard steep slopes have been developed with a series of terraces with natural stone retaining walls to accommodate an olive tree orchard.
DESIGN FOR WELL-BEING:
In harmony with its surroundings and environmental context, and also to accommodate the active life style of the residents, the Olive Hill House site is fully developed with an infinity pool, waterfall, putting green, a series of terraces with natural stone retaining walls to accommodate an olive tree orchard, which the house is named after.
