Project Description:
A hip, new enclave exuding a young, lively, and artistic spirit, VRV transformed an outdated strip mall into a landmark mixed-use community, paving the way for an urban renaissance in the city of Stanton. Sited to reinvigorate the bustling Beach Boulevard corridor, the 5-story building provides a contemporary counterpoint in a historically suburban setting, introducing urban apartments near retail and primary freeways. This architectural interpretation embodies a blend of modern industrial-tech featuring natural wood, ceramic tile, and perforated metal trellises, animating the building elevations. The design achieves a dynamic interplay of height and depth through the strategic use of vertical wood elements and enhanced materials. Inspired by music and rhythm, and featuring custom murals and art throughout, the design attracts forward-thinking professionals, creating a unique vibe for those that embody “verve”— vigor and spirit, or enthusiasm.
VRV’s main entrance is a striking wood-framed feature anchored by the leasing office, which aims to warmly welcome visitors. Adjacent to this, a retail plaza enhances the active street frontage, offering direct access to courtyards and the parking structure. The double-volume lobby and leasing center infuse the spirit of verve, featuring eclectic furnishings and creative interior architecture, while its unique resident lounge embodies the spirit of community, showcasing custom stamp art murals by artist, Chris Chandler. Expansive windows offer glimpses into the central pool courtyard, providing sweeping vistas along a diagonal view corridor. Blending indoor and outdoor living, the lounge opens to the lavish amenity courtyard highlighted by the resort-style pool and spa, outdoor fireplace, barbeques, and chaise lounges completing this urban oasis.
As the focal point, a grand California Room serves as a space for gathering, leisure, and relaxation. Personifying an energetic lifestyle, the amenities boast hip lounges, co-working spaces, a double-volume fitness center, and a golf simulator room. Creative floor plans with modern finishes and private balconies elevate the living experience. On the prominent southern corner stands the project's iconic feature—a stunning rooftop deck that offers captivating sunset views. As Stanton’s first high-density luxury apartment community, this bold urban development maximizes the potential of a highly visible site, attracts a fresh demographic of residents, and crafts a timeless, contemporary design that seamlessly integrates with the urban fabric of the city. A mecca for millennials and young professionals, this vibrant community revitalizes Stanton with modern living and artistic expression, shaping the city's future for generations to come.
Design for Integration, Design for Equitable Communities, Design for Ecosystems
Design for Integration
VRV transformed a once outdated strip mall into a vibrant mixed-use community, engaging the senses with its dynamic design and artistic elements. The building elevations come to life with natural wood, ceramic tile, and perforated metal trellises, while custom murals inspired by music and rhythm infuse the space with an energetic ambiance. Artistic elements, including custom murals by artist, Chris Chandler, inspire creativity and discovery. Unique interior architecture and eclectic furnishings in the lobby and leasing center encourage exploration and appreciation of the community's artistic expression. The rooftop deck offers captivating sunset views, providing moments of reflection, while the project’s overall design promotes wellness through diverse amenities that support an active lifestyle. The double-volume fitness center, co-working spaces, and golf simulator room offer options for physical activity and productivity, while the central pool courtyard and outdoor fireplace provide spaces for relaxation and leisure.
By introducing urban apartments near retail and primary freeways, VRV attracts forward-thinking professionals to Stanton. The mixed-use development stimulates economic growth by creating a landmark destination that supports local businesses and enhances the area's economic vitality. The adaptive reuse of the strip mall into a high-density luxury apartment community showcases innovative architectural techniques and timeless urban redevelopment.
Design for Equitable Communities
VRV fosters human connection and social equity by creating a vibrant, inclusive environment designed for creatives and community interaction. The project’s lively atmosphere, driven by music and art, is evident in its dynamic design and artistic features, custom murals, and eclectic furnishings. These elements not only stimulate the senses, but also create a welcoming space that encourages social engagement among residents.
Central to VRV’s design is its dedication to providing amenities that cater to creative individuals. The inclusion of various creative community spaces reflects the project’s commitment to supporting artistic expression. By offering these specialized amenities like its chef’s kitchen, clubhouse lounge, yoga lawn, and golf swing bay, VRV creates opportunities for residents to connect over shared interests and collaborate on projects, fostering a strong sense of community.
The abundance of communal spaces, such as the grand California Room, the resort-style pool, hanging day beds, and outdoor lounges, enhances social interaction and promotes inclusivity. These areas are designed to accommodate a diverse range of activities and gatherings, encouraging residents from different backgrounds to come together. Located just minutes from Rodeo 39, VRV also offers residents convenient access to a vibrant hub of dining, shopping, and entertainment.
VRV’s approach to design supports social equity by offering high-quality options in a thriving urban setting. By revitalizing the Beach Boulevard corridor and introducing a mixed-use development, VRV contributes to the economic and cultural revitalization of Stanton, providing valuable resources and opportunities for a diverse population.
Design for Ecosystems
VRV plays a pivotal role in supporting and revitalizing the local ecosystem, particularly through its contribution to the rejuvenation of the Beach Boulevard corridor, the 21-mile road connecting Stanton, Anaheim, and Buena Park with a direct route to the Pacific Ocean. As the first project of its kind in Stanton, VRV acts as a catalyst for urban transformation, setting a new standard for activating and energizing the area. The wrap building is specifically designed to blend seamlessly with the context of the city, enhancing the local urban fabric while introducing innovative design elements.
By raising the bar for urban design in Stanton, VRV contributes to the transformation of Beach Boulevard from an aging, outdated, and dilapidated thoroughfare to the dynamic travel destination it once was. This "glow-up" reflects a broader effort to redeem and elevate the area and one of Orange County’s most iconic roadways. VRV's design embodies this vision, fostering resilience and enhancing connectivity with the local ecosystem.
