Project Description:
The design approach for this timeless home was to imagine the traditional elements as existing with contemporary improvements taking place over time. Two cape-cod inspired gable ends stand proud at the street while a glass volume bridges between to define the entry. This creates a strong juxtaposition between the traditional and contemporary elements and draws visual interest towards the activity center of the home, which is the yard for this family-oriented residence.
Careful detailing of the shingle style with the integration of white washed brick and natural wood creates a rich look for the exterior in perfect complement of the dark aluminum clad window walls. Due to the flag shape of the lot, there is a natural compression sequence at the entry that is quickly expanded as the two story volume opens up to the large yard space at the rear. The two bedroom wings shape the outdoor living spaces as activity from the pool area, covered cabana, and interior living spaces flow between.
The simple and reserved nature of the interiors shows the intentionality behind each design element as exterior elements run indoor/outdoor in perfect harmony with the functionality of the home.
