Location: Monterrey, Mexico
Project Description:
Nestled in the foothills of the incomparable Sierra Madre, Monterrey is known the world over as The City of Mountains. Here, among the cascading waterfalls of Cola de Caballo, the iconic Cerro de la Silla, and Chipinque National Park, one is constantly immersed within the natural beauty of this remarkable landscape.
The Diego Rivera District is a large scale mixed use project specifically designed to establish a strong urban connection with the existing fabric while drawing cues from the local environment. As a premiere destination, local residents and visitors alike will experience world class retail, dining, and cultural institutions. A central multifunction village plaza will engage with the newly enhanced Parque Rufino Tamayo offering a flexible communal space within a highly active pedestrian realm.
This scheme is inspired by the signature gestures of the surrounding landscape. The chiseled mountain tops and tectonic peaks help to inform the massing for each of the towers in the development. In contrast, the soft, green hillside where the strong vertical striations meet the land is an intriguing juxtaposition that one can imagine translates well into the towers resting on a green podium base.
