Project Description:
Bringing together nearly 1300 employees from 28 different office locations, Adventist Health has created a unified approach to hospital administration that better supports its constituents and significantly influences positive outcomes for patients across their six-state system. Located in Roseville, California, this 275,000 square foot, WELL Silver Certified Corporate Headquarters consolidates administrative teams under one roof and provides opportunities for interpersonal and inter-departmental collaboration. Perhaps, most importantly, it is a place that focuses on the well-being of employees who are fundamental to executing the organization’s mission of health, wholeness and hope.
The organization’s faith-based foundation and its commitment to physical, mental and spiritual wellness is demonstrated well before entering the building. Sited atop one of the highest points in Roseville, the building’s parti marries the Medical and Christian crosses to create a series of penetrating gardens that fuse inside and outside. The 26-acre campus restores the Central Valley Grassland ecology by strategically repairing the campus’s degraded soils, creating new habitats for flora and fauna utilizing local native and climate adapted plant species, and reducing dependency on seasonal water demands especially during periods of severe drought. This park-like setting incorporates a one-mile walking trail that spans the property and a yoga lawn and allows employees/visitors to be transported through an experience of native grasses and wildflowers, selected from the regional ecosystems.
Inside, the focus on Wellness continues through the incorporation of natural materials, views to nature, biophilic design elements, and opportunities to promote movement. At the building’s symbolic core, a tendril-like ‘Mission Stair’ symbolizes a growing vine tying the building and community together while also forming the center piece of the ‘Collaborative Hub.’ The Hub is the collaborative heart of the organization and provides variety in the daily lives of the workers. It encourages differing modes of collaboration with an assortment of diverse meeting spaces and furniture that promote happenstance interactions and formal meetings alike.
In addition to the non-traditional spaces offered by the Hub, a vibrant café, provides a place of respite while offering employees and visitors a healthy meal. Taking advantage of on-site gardens, the chef uses fresh herbs, produce and healing plants to prepare the vegetarian menu - reinforcing and celebrating Adventist Health’s focus on a healthy mind, body and spirit.
Supporting both mental and physical health, the headquarters incorporates a health clinic open to employees and their families that includes new modalities such as a Movement Studio, Rehabilitation Studio and an Infusion room, providing cutting edge daily care and convenience for their employees.
A symbol of a new Phase for Adventist Health, this project exemplifies the highest level of architectural achievement, helping an organization to grow, its employees to be more productive and to provide all occupants with an environment that is stimulating, diverse and healthy while making a positive impact on the environment and its community.
