Project Description:
This home was made for entertaining. In fact, the client’s brief was wanting the home to feel like a boutique hotel.
Upon arrival, the first view is straight through the main volume of the home, through the pocketing doors on each side, to the expansive lake beyond. A well placed tree keeps the interior screened from the street while offering glimpses to the view. This two-story high volume serves as the lounge of the home. Set up with two distinct sitting areas, the space evokes the feeling of a swanky hotel lobby. Off to the side, the kitchen looks into the lounge, but a change in ceiling height delineates the two spaces. Designed to downplay the cooking elements, the kitchen is meant to feel like an extension of the living space. Off the kitchen, in the left wing of the home, is the dining room which doubles as a wine tasting room. The actual bar, at the end of the wing, opens at the corner to overflow onto the viewing deck and down into the backyard.
Located a few steps down to maintain views over the furniture, the fire pit serves as the main gathering spot in the heart of the home. Down the next set of stairs, you’ll find a bubbler fountain, a secluded spa, and an additional small fireplace lounge. Finally, down one more set of stairs, you’ll come to the event area. This gravel space is lined with trees to provide a canopy of foliage. We imagine fairy lights wrapping the trees while a musician strums on an acoustic guitar over a large family dinner.
This home is set up to keep the party going; here’s hoping we get an invite.
