Project Description:
Established in Santa Clarita California, this mixed-use project revitalizes a downtown area through incorporating contemporary uses with rich historic character. Design inspiration for the project was drawn from Disneyland’s Main Street and features historical 1900s detailing. Challenges the designers faced included translating previous, simple 2-story building types into a larger scale at a higher density. Also, developing a strategy to build a substantial parking structure with an aesthetic appeal.
Heritage buildings such as the corner bank, grand hotel, and Art Deco theater inspire interwoven references to the old Main Street, once the favorite location for Hollywood’s Western films and other classics. A multi-use town square features distinct store frontages and architectural details to establish unique shop identities.
Pedestrian-friendly and oriented away from heat and wind, the new plaza creates an inviting public living room at the ground level. The plaza displays a large screen on the parking garage viewable for large audiences. Behind the retail and theater, the parking garage uses 4 distinct elevations, angled elements, and variegated windows to reduce mass and promote storefront ambiance that is strengthened by a pedestrian path.
Also on site is a recently completed six-plex Laemmle theatre, home to art-centric films and festivals, first-runs, blockbusters, and community events. Easy Metrolink access connects residents to their LA offices, while bike and pedestrian networks unite the entire 20-block area that encompasses the City’s revitalization plan.
With about 20,000 SF of retail and restaurant spaces, the commercial core serves visitors, locals, and upscale dwelling units above. The residential unit sizes and layouts address singles, couples, and small families, with generously sized plans from 1,000 - 1,600 SF and including 1-to 3-bedrooms. Open floorplans, private balconies, culinary kitchens, interior laundry, and luxury baths are highlighted in all the homes. Amenities within the residential sector include a community room, a shared office space, and a fitness center. This progressive development offers self-contained convenience and a lifestyle identity that resonates with buyers in the surrounding market.
