Project Description:
Rise Park was conceived of through the lens of Community Design Approach. According to the Center For Active Design, new communities should endeavor to support well-being for the community at large. The Architect approached the design for Rise Park with this tenet in mind, striving to achieve wellness for the mind, body, and soul by focusing on aspects of spiritual, emotional, social, and physical interaction. Active design strategies were utilized to enhance open space connectivity with the goal of providing opportunity for the community to improve health in a well-rounded manner. This served to inform design decisions in both architectural expression and incorporation into the landscape design.
The Profound Sanctuary is organized around individual moments of mindful restoration and refection. Two shade elements in this area have forms driven by the secluded landscape spaces and aquatic rings in the shallow pond. Floating above the landscape areas, these structures are finished with reflective panels to mirror the lush, flowering plants beneath. The panels incorporate a micro pattern of perforations to allow filtered light onto the ground. Supporting utility structures are finished with cedar siding to blend into the surrounding landscape.
The Majestic Garden was developed with physical and social activity as the driver; where Profound Sanctuary looks inward, the Majestic Garden looks outward. The 2,500 sf community building is placed at the highest point of the site, serving as a beacon for social gatherings and watching activity at the pool deck below, utilizing a roof form that tilts and warps toward the view. Multiple shade structures line the pool deck veranda, utilizing 16’ cantilevers to provide shade and filtered light beneath natural cedar boards.
The Overlook provides an elemental stopping point on the journey through Rise Park, culminating in the spirit. This architectural promontory provides a large, elevated terrace of 2,800 sf in the sky. Finished in IPE wood decking and ghostly thin metal mesh, the form at Overlook points to sunset locations of the winter and summer solstice, with the third providing views of Santiago Peak. Beneath the deck are tranquil, shaded spaces with passive cooling provided by natural breezes across the shallow pond.
