Project Description:
Carrying the finest import, craft and domestic beers available and with sales in excess of 20 million cases of beer to over 5,600 accounts across 800 square miles, Harbor Distributing has brought the hub of their business, the west coast portfolio of Reyes Holdings, to Huntington Beach. Established in 1976, Reyes Holdings is a first generation family business and the largest beer distributor in the United States with 90% of the market.
Harbor Distributing’s new headquarters has transformed an unused 500,000 square foot warehouse and campus in Huntington Beach into a cutting edge distribution facility that represents their brand, and family traditions of quality and commitment. The design concept echoes the role of a distributor in business by focusing on beautiful connections. Key design elements showcase the quality of Harbor’s operation, sense of tradition, and close connection to the community.
The main lobby features a 40 foot wide by 23 foot high window into acres of their warehouse refrigerated storage, the “Kegbox”. Their seamless operation and volume of brands, the bedrock of their business, forms a backdrop to a spacious and airy lobby. The palette, inspired by the natural elements of beer, highlights materials and finishes that reflect the Huntington Beach lifestyle. The beautiful crafted wood flooring, millwork, and feature stair, inspired by vintage koa wood surfboards, softens the contrast of the concrete warehouse floors and metal kegs. From the Lobby, there is a 100 foot long boardwalk gallery of shadowboxes interspersed with larger than life bottle caps that tell the story of the company and family. The gallery opens up into a café and bar, named “Tiger Joe’s” after their father who was a P-31 pilot in World War II. A full height art installation of the “Tiger Joe” logo on an aluminum fuselage frames the end of the boardwalk and angles to an open demonstration bar with a 46 foot long live edge walnut bar top. This café and bar area also opens to an outdoor patio with bocce ball court and overlapping canopy panels. As well as an employee café demonstration bar and auditorium, Tiger Joe’s also functions as a connection to both business and community, hosting frequent industry and public events.
Harbor Distributing’s commitment to their customers is matched only by their passion to enrich the community. They support organizations and initiatives that care for sick children, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and serve the disadvantaged. In addition they play an active role in partnering with law enforcement to deter drunk driving and underage access to alcohol. Harbor Distributing has partnered with the Newport Beach Police Department on the 29th annual Night Out against crime event, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Orange County on alcohol awareness training. Harbor Distributing is also committed to a green supply chain that contributes to their client’s sustainable development initiatives and conserves resources for the community.
Harbor Distributing has not only brought a thriving business employing over 500 people to their stunning new Huntington Beach headquarters, they have brought their aim to do more than their part to improve the quality of life where they do business, Orange County.
