Project Description:
Contemporary design and full-service luxury expanded the new tourism-related development in Palm Springs, CA. Located at 1875 N. Palm Canyon Drive, the TOVA Hotel and Beach Club boasts a repositioning success story, with its 104 guestrooms, 200 seat dining, and convenient-affiliated amenities. The existing 1970’s faux-Spanish structure was stripped and reimagined into a four—star, exotic work of art.
The concept of TOVA derived from the name’s meanings - “Good Girl” in Hebrew and “Beautiful Thunder” in Nordic. The design team’s intent was to embody bold simplicity and contemporary spirit, by threading elements of lighting, neutral palettes, and existing nature throughout the space.
Acknowledging the desert environment, the team utilized exterior overhangs for shadow, shade, and definition; expansive glass facades for natural daylight; and white building material to transfer the focus to the colorful landscape. The interior concepts had a paralleled philosophy - applying clean form, with contrasting rich natural materials such as sand, stone and glass; and deep accent colors of gold and velvet blues.
The lobby serves as the guest’s centralized access point. The space’s double-height main entrance features concierge check-in, inspiring artwork, and a transforming bar. The area is central to the full-service spa; executive boardrooms and work spaces; and the heart of the project - the expansive wraparound pool. The lobby is bookended by the fine-dining restaurant and rooftop bar.
TOVA’s guestrooms were downsized from 124 keys to 104 units, introducing King Suites and exotic townhomes. To increase the sense of connectivity throughout the hotel, patios among ground level rooms were extended and encased with glass, and second floor railings were replaced with the same material. All guestrooms were refit with gold finishes and mid-century furniture; upgraded to expansive showers; and boasted custom millwork. Each element and installation was thoughtfully incorporated to expand intimateness, and to create a unique experience for each guest - a beautiful thunder.
