Location: Dana Point, California
Project Description:
The Wave Resort at the Strand in Dana Point, California is a project designed in accordance to requirements of the Headland Development and Conservation Plan as entitled by the California Coastal Commission. The three uses for the 1.4 acre site are: 1) a 57-room, 26,950 s.f. Boutique Hotel; 2) a 4,000 s.f. Restaurant, and deck dining with view of the bay; and 3) a 4,050 s.f. 40-Bed Hostel, for a total building area of 35,000 s.f.
The development provides links to existing trails in the adjacent nature preserve. A 35-foot height limit is prescribed to not adversely affect any neighboring views over the vegetative roof. The deck area offers panoramas to the bay beyond. The deck includes a hardscape garden with a pool, all above the day-lighted subterranean parking structure.
A public plaza at street level offers visitor information for the city as well as the preserve. The Hostel has affordable lodging for patrons who may enjoy water-oriented sports. The restaurant can accommodate special events while the 57-room Boutique Hotel has an international appeal.
